The
push for science and technology to work with each other rather than against one another is continuing. The advent of certain unethical practices is determined to rear its ugly head in this high-tech field. One such practice is called sham surgery. This type of surgery is a form of a “placebo” effect for patients suffering from Parkinson’s disease (Health Week, 2003). It consists of the doctor explaining a procedure of implanting fetal brain cells into patients with severe Parkinson’s disease to see if there are any changes or effects. The patients involved in this study are all willing participants of the research. This however brings up some other issues of ethical practices. The participants pass up the risks involved in hopes the practice works. Dr. Ruth Maklin from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in NY stated that, “performing a surgical procedure that has no expected benefit violates ethical and regulatory principles” (Health Week, 2003).

Global
Warming is the second most threatening thing to humans. Without realizing it, each day all of you will contribute to global warming. Weather it be from the morning when you put hairspray in your hair, or that little gum wrapper you throw on the ground because you have no pockets. These things sound minor and each of you thinks that little things such as them can’t harm the environment, but you all are terribly mistaken.
Global warming by definition is the increase of temperature of the earth’s surface. This is happening faster then needed because human activities that enhance the earth’s natural green house effect. Ever since the early 1800’s, human activities such as the burning of fossil fuels and the clearing of land have increased the amounts of heat-trapping atmospheric gazes. Read the rest of this entry »
Kotler
( et al.p16-22) depict there are five marketing management philosophies which are production, product, selling, marketing and societal concepts.
The production concept details that consumers will buy products which are available and affordable, and management attention is directed towards improving production efficiency ( in a situation of demand exceeding supply ) and distribution efficiency ( where product costs are high and improvements in this area are needed to reduce costs ).
Therefore if either of these prior situations occurred then the entrepreneurs would be wise in adopting such a marketing management philosophy, but the risk of becoming too focused on these aspects is dangerous to the company’s survival short and long term due to the narrow focus.

In
the men’s world today, a lot of the husbands still think making money is their responsibility, while housekeeping, cooking, and taking care of the children are the responsibilities of their wives, regardless if they have daily jobs or not. Therefore, women are doing a lot of extra works and accumulating a lot of stress, while the men are relaxing with beers and chips watching television. But now days some husbands are doing all the works at home, in exchange for respect and obedience from their wives when they are outside with friends. The perception of how men and women see each other from now and before time has changed drastically. Even the aspect of the dating point of view has changed.

What
if you believed marriages should last forever? Would you stay no matter what? What if you didn’t want to leave your home and belongings? As many as 4 million women are abused nationwide (Mujer), and a lot of these women stay no matter what the cost. I was one of them. But, the interesting thing is that now, one year later; I can’t even begin to figure out the reasons I stayed. I consider myself a strong, independent person; I can’t understand why I allowed myself to go through the most emotionally damaging experience in my life. I chose the question “Why do women stay in abusive relationships?” for my research because I want to try and understand the reasons I stayed, as well as why so many other women stay.

Diversity
is the mixing of race or gender in educational and employment opportunities. In the student body it’s imperative to create a campus environment which encourages tolerance and respect for individuals regardless of differences in age, race, ethnicity, sex, religion, and sexual orientation. Colleges have worked to create programs to study experiences, perspectives, and contributions of a wide variety of cultures, groups, and individuals. They need to recruit, enroll, and educate diverse populations of students who represent the overall composition of their society.
Colleges need to provide a good climate for students and employees of diverse backgrounds and is guided by fairness and equity. Harassment and discrimination on any campus shouldn’t be tolerated.

Fiber
optics is a very interesting field. It is the transmission of light over long distances, using a small wire. Actually, it isn’t a wire at all, but long thin strands of pure glass that are the size of a single piece of hair. They group these fibers together and make optic cables.
The cables consist of three main parts. The first part is the inner most part, which is the core. The core is the strand of pure glass that the light is used to travel through. The second part is the cladding the surrounds the glass. This helps to keep the light traveling through the core, by putting a reflective coating around the outside. The last part is the buffer coating. This helps to protect the cable from water moisture and other outside interferences.

The
central argument dealing with euthanasia focuses on whether people should have the right to control their own destiny. There are not many instances when euthanasia should occur except for in the cases of the elderly, people who have already lived most their lives that want to end their misery sooner rather than a strung out dying process. Physicians will often have the choice to kill a terminally ill patient. There are two sides to this argument, but from my standpoint a patient gives their Doctor the right to alter their natural course of life by paying this person to care for them. The medical profession is based upon a moral code of conduct, which needs to be upheld among medical schools, and by those who care for others in order for euthanasia to work. people have heard of Fibrmyalgia syndrome (FMS). It is a sever disorder in which not a lot of people know much about. So what actually is FMS? Fibromyalgia syndrome is a widespread chronic musculoskeletal pain and fatigue disorder for which the cause is still unknown. FMS used to be called fibrositis, implying that there was inflammation in the muscles, but research later proved that inflammation did not exist.

The
stable male dominated society of Great Britain in the middle third of the eighteenth century offered little opportunity for women to play an active role in political, economic, or social affairs. It also seemed to offer little encouragement to the ideas now gathered under the term feminism: the movement for civil and political equality of women and men, and the opportunity of self-determination and autonomy for women. Society assumed that women were subservient to men, that their natural destiny was marriage, and that, therefore, women needed only minimal education. Read the rest of this entry »
