We are living in the industrialized and developed world that is changing rapidly every moment of every day. It can also be said that we live in the days of communication. In the last couple of decades people began to understand the importance of possessing good communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal. There are some people who say that they are not much of talkers, stating that as an excuse for not being very open or feeling comfortable around people. Certainly, fifty or sixty years ago such excuses were acceptable, though today they no longer are. Thus, under such circumstances, it is very important to constantly work on improving one’s communication skills. The first way to improving is analyzing. Therefore, in my short paper I would like to analyze my personal communication skills, go over my strengths and weaknesses and try to come up with ways for improvement.

To begin with, I would like to analyze my verbal strengths. I am a very outgoing person and I can say that I get along with people very easily. Thus, communication with people was never a problem for me. I possess an excellent vocabulary because from early years I have enjoyed reading books and watching developmental television shows. I am not afraid of public speaking, and usually when being faced with talking to the audience I feel confident, manage my voice and the content of my speech. Though, of course, there are some verbal communicational patterns that I have to improve. For example, I am a very sociable, active and motivated person, and I enjoy being in the center of attention. Sometimes it happens that I start to dominate the less active members of the team with my orator skills and fine vocabulary. Thus, I think, it is necessary for me to learn how to control my strengths and this will help me improve my weaknesses.
Now I would like to talk about my nonverbal strengths and weaknesses. As I have already mentioned earlier, I feel very comfortable around people. Consequently, it can be said that my nonverbal communication skills are very strong. I know how to control my body language and facial expressions, and I am aware of my gestures and posture and body orientation. Though, of course, I have nonverbal weaknesses that are that I find it rather difficult to express my thoughts in writing and, no matter how hard I tried to improve it, I am very bad at spelling.
In conclusion I would like to say that I fully understand the importance of possessing good verbal and nonverbal communication skills. What is of utmost importance is that today the significance of communication skills in the business sector can not be measured. Doubtfully it is possible to come across an advertisement for a position in the business sector that does not mention that candidates should have good communication skills. Furthermore, the promotions also usually come only to those who can communicate efficiently at all levels, feel well around people. Thus, my primary purpose now will be to improve my communication strengths and work on my weaknesses.
